Comicpalooza: a success! (sort of)

Well, Comicpalooza was pretty nutty. To say it was disorganized would be a pretty gross understatement, though I definitely had fun while I was there. The folks who saw the show absolutely loved it and several people who bought the book came up to me later to say how much they liked it, which was pretty nice. I really enjoyed meeting everyone who came to the table, so if you’re one of those people and you’re reading this right now: nice to meet you!

The best part of the whole thing was planting the seed for the Wortham Center show next year. Oh, I never mentioned that in the blog, I don’t think. Yes, the live show is going to be playing the Wortham Center in Houston. For details, visit the Society for the Performing Arts website.

Disorganized? Yeah, you could certainly say that. One of our 501st/Rebel Legion members, Alan Steinberg, saw how messy things were getting less than a week before the con opened and jumped in with both feet to take command of as many aspects as the con’s “organizers” would allow. Alan’s girlfriend Kemper even ended up taking over the Registration desk due to the out-of-control manner in which it was being ‘managed’, and even Kemper’s mother chipped in a helping hand for many hours.
Yet even with all the chaos that ensued, when I spoke with Ray Park after he joined us in our impromptu lightsaber dueling demonstration, Ray said that he had a great time here in Houston and would love to come back again for future Comicpaloozas. I’d call that a success.

    Jason,

I am the teen librarian who met you at Comicpalooza. I am sorry that I didn’t get a chance to see your performance, but I am writing a report to my manager, the Teen Service Coordinator. I am telling her about your interest in working with the Houston Public Library, but I don’t see any contact information for you — e-mail, phone number, address, etc.

Yeah, Alan was a HUGE help to us. It would have been completely disastrous without him.
