Buzz Moran directs the kids from Spicewood Elementary
Yesterday we held the first of three school assemblies and workshops at local elementary schools. Elementary schools? you say. Yep. But won’t you scare the pants off the kids? Well, probably some were scared, but the rest had a blast. We performed the first 45 minutes of the show and then worked with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in groups of 20 or so to give them a chance to try out the sound effects and perform scenes from the show. I think this is about the closest I could come to being a kid again–seeing this show through their eyes. Sure, they didn’t get any of the jokes, but they were completely sucked into the story and characters and were DYING to know what happened next. The best moment for me was when a couple of boys asked whether we were going to repeat what they already saw at the
Long Center show. When we told them we were, they high-fived with a “yessss!”
Sweet.
Next Monday we’re headed to my daughter’s elementary school and at first she was a little embarrassed that I was doing this. But now she keeps telling me how excited she is that we’re coming! Seriously, I can’t wait.
By the way, if you’re in Austin, pick up tix to this weekend’s 7 PM screenings of Iron Man 2 (Fr, Sa, Sun) at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar location. We reveal episode three of the Live-Action Graphic Novel as a short before the feature!
