Jacob’s Ladders
Today we found a couple of transformers to build Jacob’s ladders with. You need a certain kind of transformer to make a Jacob’s ladder and they are hard to find because to build a Jacob’s ladder you need a transformer that doesn’t have a safety cut-off and they just don’t build those anymore. We lined up two 15,000-volt transformers. Needless to say, you don’t want to stick your finger between wires connected the these!
What’s a Jacob’s ladder, you ask? These suckers look like rabbit-ear antennas but when you turn them on they arc electricity between the rabbit ears. The electricity moves up until the distance gets too wide, then it pops and starts from the bottom again. Think Frankenstein. Great sound. Great visual. And only to be seen at the Long Center premiere!
